Learning

The museum is committed to supporting an innovative learning programme that engages people of all ages. Our learning philosophy is to enforce ‘the belief that the collections belong to the community and to promote a feeling of ownership of the same’ MBND Learning Policy 2018.

Self Guided Tours

Teachers and group leaders are welcome to visit the museum without staff support, however we advise a museum pre-visit to familiarise yourselves with parking, access and our facilities to ensure you have an enjoyable visit. Please contact the museum for advice and to inform us of your group numbers as at times it can be busy. Our teacher resources can be utilised for visiting classes or groups.

Educational Sessions and Guided Tours

The museum currently has no Learning Officer in post, due to this we are unable to offer workshop sessions with schools. We will have an update on the post following the Easter Half Term break.

We are currently able to provide self-lead museum visits and school loans boxes, for further information about our loans boxes and resources please click Here.

If you have any enquiries or would like to arrange a self-led museum visit please contact museum@northdevon.gov.uk

Educational visits to the museum can be led by a member of our staff. Sessions can include curriculum themed guided tours and workshops for participants to handle objects from our collections that are not on display. Please contact the museum for charges and availability and to help tailor the visit to your curriculum needs.

Risk assessment guidance including Covid-19 visit measures for teachers is downloadable here.

Learning Room

Our new learning room is a multi-purpose creative space equipped with IT access, WiFi, cloakroom and toilets facilities. Object handling sessions and talks for schools are presented in this space that comfortably seats a class of students. Alternatively if your school wishes to use the space for a different activity or as a safe space for students to eat their lunch, please contact our team about availability.
