Join us on Thursday 26th May for a talk exploring the history of Barnstaple’s School of Art from its early days as Barnstaple Literary and Scientific Institute to becoming one of the best known art schools in West Country.

Discover how it became a part of what has been described as a Crucible of Creativity producing students that would make their mark on the world, becoming influencers of their day. Pupils included architect and teacher William Richard Lethaby, weaver dyer Ethel Mairet and art potter C. H. Brannam.

You will also have the chance to explore our new exhibition ‘The Partridge Family of Barnstaple, Ethel Mairet, Fred Partridge and the Arts and Craft Movement’ with late opening.
