Athenaeum Library

Permanent Display

The North Devon Athenaeum functioned in the museum’s building as a public library when it was set up in 1888, and later became home to the county library.  This gallery is now the museum’s library, telling our own story, including the influential Victorians behind some of our collections.

Featured is the Landkey Parish Table, a remarkable survival that has been in use for over 500 years.

Draws of historical specimens and early early recording instruments sit upon the 500 year old Landkey table in the library.
