Hope Bourne (1918-2010) was one of the twentieth century’s most extraordinary nature writers and artists. Fiercely self-reliant, Hope Bourne lived alone in a series of remote off -grid cottages and caravans on Exmoor and both her writing and artwork chronicle nature and the changing seasons around her.

The Exmoor Society holds her archive and is about to publish the first biography of her life, written by Sara Hudston and accompanied by an exhibition of Bourne’s artwork opening on 2 November 2026.
