“Human happiness, true prosperity and joyful living can only emerge from a life of elegant simplicity, embedded in the arts and crafts.”
– Satish Kumar

In honour of the 60th anniversary of Resurgence, The Art of Resurgence shares the story of the magazine and celebrates the work of artists who have contributed to its visual history.

The exhibition explores the early days of Resurgence as a pioneering peace magazine, its transformation into an environmental charity, and the creation of The Resurgence Centre in Hartland, North Devon.

You’ll discover some of the visionaries whose ideas were featured in the magazine and the myriad of initiatives that emerged from Resurgence, including Schumacher College, The Schumacher Society, Green Books, and The Small School.

There will be a dedicated space showcasing cover images from the Resurgence magazine archive dating back to 1966 as well as artwork and prints by artists who featured in the publication, including early works by Axel Scheffler and Jackie Morris. We will also be exhibiting crafts by ceramicist Sandy Brown and founder of the global Craftivist Collective, Sarah P Corbett.
