Weekend Weaving Workshop – Day 2: Weaving
12 June 2022,
£100 per person
10am – 11am, Jenny Wilkinson – ‘From Sheep to Loom’
Weavers Tour of Exhibition, talk and demonstration on loom used by Ethel Mairet. Jenny will be weaving in the Community Gallery today and will take time out to enable us to view the exhibition ‘Through the eye of a Weaver’.
Jenny works from home amongst the flock of Shetland sheep that graze her 50 acres of Exmoor land. These sheep provide Jenny with the wool she needs to create her characterful yet quiet, hand woven rugs.
Jenny’s textiles are made in the context of work with land, hedgerow, woodland, habitat conservation and garden. Jenny’s textiles are contemporary yet rooted in tradition.
Refreshments will be provided by Bromley’s at the Museum
11.30am – 4.30pm: Backstrap loom weaving workshop with Angie Parker
You will be introduced to the technique and will set up the warp for our weaving.
Angie Parker established her business creating distinctive and intricate rugs and textile art in 2014, and specialises in hand-weaving using long established techniques, such as Krokbragd.
She combines her weaving with an instinctive and daring approach to colour and it’s the creative process of importing a contemporary element to the time honoured techniques of weaving and the responses from the viewer which most excite her.
