Wilfred Avery Collection

In 2019 sixteen works by Wilfred Avery were presented to the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon by the executor of the Estate of Wilfred Avery, John Crossley, with Art Fund support.

Wilfred Avery was born in nearby South Molton. Much of his work reflects his memories of his time in North Devon before he moved away to study art in Cheltenham, and progressing onwards with his career as an artist. The museum’s collection of Wilfred Avery’s work spans the full breadth of his artistic career with featured work from the 1950s through to the 1990s. Works include both figurative and landscape examples and are all works on paper – either drawn or painted.
